Using the smartMOB Wiki (part of the smartMOB platform) we have created a web-based business intelligence tool that enables Warner Music Australia to have always available real-time access on sales volumes, artist campaigns, sales and charting performance history, current music news, etc through integration and visualisation of various feeds (including the ARIA charts and internal Warner Music information). It has also evolved over time to become a social hub within WMA; enabling staff to upload and share their information about their favourite artists/music, provide information about themselves etc.

The tool is used at the primary weekly management meetings to provide a current snapshot of how WMA is performing across the industry and to plan and track artist campaigns and activity. Prior to Multitrack all this was done via spreadsheets collated by different people using multiple methodologies and processes. Now WMA have an single integrated and consistent view.

For the project MOB also developed a rich interactive web-based calendar that allows Warner to have all their artist activities mapped in a central location that is tightly integrated with individual artist activities. It is also used to visually map artist activities against artist products sales performance.

Currently the application is in the process of replacing the WMA intranet - the first phase has resulted in the integration of HR related information and forms that can be easily updated by HR resources.

Results

Implementation of the tool has resulted in marked efficiencies in workflow and productivity, including:

  • Minimised duplication of reports
  • Ensures no data/knowledge loss due to staff attrition
  • Shared understanding of data rather than multiple perspectives
  • Dynamic visualisation of performance over-time

What is the smartMOB Wiki?
